Tattoo Aftercare
You just got tattooed. Now what?
The answer to that is Proper aftercare!
Once your tattoo session is finished, your artist will apply a type of bandage to protect your tattoo in the hours after your tattoo. The artists of Gypsy Rose recommend you leave your bandage on for a minimum of 3 hours to a maximum of overnight. Your artist may give you specific instructions as to when you should remove your bandage based on size of the tattoo, time of day or even if you plan on attending something later on that day. Please follow their recommendation for the protection of you and your tattoo. Your artist took every precaution to give you a beautiful tattoo in a clean environment.
We understand that you want you to show off your tattoo, But only when it is safe to do so.
The first couple of days your tattoo will be beautifully bright and vibrant. It will also be very sensitive and warm to the touch. Some say it feels very similar to a sunburn. This general discomfort is a common and normal. Along with some mild swelling.
By day 2 or 3 you will notice that your tattoo is feeling dry. This is when you begin to apply a moisturizer. Gypsy Rose Tattoo carries its own brand of aftercare lotion that you can conveniently pick up at the front counter. We also recommend similar products such as Lubriderm or Aveeno. These are colourless and scentless water-based moisturizers that will sooth and moisturize a healing tattoo. Apply moisturizer approximatly 2 – 3 times per day making sure not to over moisturize.
Flaking and dryness are two things to expect in the first couple of weeks after getting your tattoo. Sometimes, you may even notice a scab forming. It is important to keep your tattoo properly moisturize during this time. Keeping your tattoo moisturized not only aids in the healing process, but can be very soothing to a sore and itchy tattoo. Be sure not to over moisturize.
Once the dryness has passed, your tattoo will look a little shiny. This is the final stage of healing.
Break it down,
the steps for proper tattoo aftercare are:
1. wash tattoo
2. leave tattoo alone
3. apply moisturizer to tattoo.
4. enjoy your beautifully healed tattoo
