STERILIZATION At Gypsy Rose Tattoos, we endeavor to meet and exceed the regulations set by Alberta Health Services(AHS). In 2009, AHS mandated that the style of autoclave sterilization currently in place was no longer acceptable. Gypsy Rose now currently operates with a Statim 2000 autoclave, as well as a secondary Statim 2000 as a back-up. Both of our autoclaves are independently spore tested on a monthly basis thru the Provincial Laboratory or Alberta. Our spore testing results are always on display at the front counter. All piercing needles, and all tattoo needles and needle bars are single use and disposed of at your artists station. All re-useable equipment (tattoo grips and tips, piercing forceps, etc) are cleaned and sterilized thru the following process: equipment is rinsed after use and placed directly into an ultrasonic cleaner with efferzyme tablets (to help break down biological material). The equipment is then scrubbed down thoroughly with an abrasive surgical equipment cleaner, and rinsed. After air drying, equipment is individually packaged, sealed, and autoclaved. All items are air dried before being put away to maintain the integrity of the packaging. All autoclave cycles are monitored for time, temperature, and pressure, and all information for each cycle is manually recorded in a log book. All work is done on a non-porous work surface, and all equipment that isn’t single use (machines, clip cords, power supply etc) is protected with a disposable barrier. We use Germiphene 3 to clean down all work surfaces and furniture after each client. Germiphene 3 is a full spectrum hard surface disinfectant. |
